Keifer Sutherland 24 Season & Show Finale
My favorite show of all time ended just last night with its last season and season finale.
For those of you that haven’t checked it out, you are REALLY missing out. It had the best cinematic ending ever. I truly did not expect President Taylor to come clean as she did, it takes a true person to do so. Furthermore, I completely sympathize with her reasons for wanting to keep the peace treat. I believe the biggest mistake on her part was just to trust President Logan. This is a classic example of how a conspiracy & lies snowball into uncontrollable fixation. One lie after another. We can call this the “untruthful snowball effect”. Ex-President Logan (Gregory Itzin) had an end deserving of what was coming to him, but I did not like how he killed his own aide with the classic gunshot through the pillow (I never got why they do that, maybe because they won’t to see the face of the murdered man? I’m sure a psychologist could write a novel on why..). Moments before I figured out Charles Logan was going to go all Hitler-esque (a referral to Hitler’s suicidal end with gunshot), I was thinking “show what’s Logan’s next move”? What’s the Russian president going to do? I definitely DID get a kick when Jack Bauer went Mike Tyson on Jason (Logan’s aide).. bought him and Chloe O’Brian a few more moments.
How could this show have gone if President Taylor had only followed Jack Bauer’s advice several episodes ago when she personally met him? Well we would’ve definitely missed some exciting moments in TV history, but I could see how the angle would have turned out. I could see how the writers could have spinned it, perhaps the Russians chased after Bauer & the roles were reversed, maybe President Taylor’s life was at stake, which would be a tribute to President David Palmer’s assassination attempts in the early seasons of 24. We might have seen 10 episodes of Jack pwnage.. but we wouldn’t see the vengeful Jack that the show really needed for a fitting & memorable end.
I could definitely say that was Keifer Sutherland’s role of a lifetime and it went out with a big bang representing pop culture of the 2000s. (Wish we could say the same for another awesome show, Heroes, that got cancelled unexpectedly and could not complete its storyline. Sylar (Zachary Quinto) had just turned good too!! WTF TV networks suck.
I’m glad they didn’t turn this show’s ending into a cake “Fairy tale” ending. Maybe this show could’ve gone “Supernatural” (pun intended) and shown Charles Logan rotting in hell!
Maybe America could really benefit a CTU & a guy like Jack Bauer! =)
I’ll write about Lost’s season finale when I watch it tomorrow (heard it was a huge disappointment with a lot of cliffhangers, but gotta see for myself!)
