Over 3000 negative Amazon reviews on J. R. R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings? Why?

“New Line should be ashamed of themselves at this most blantant example of double-dipping. They clearly have put on the ring and are in cahoots with Sauron.”

I’m talking about the HD version of the films by the way : ).

I just watched Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring extended DVD version for the first time, I’ve practically lost count of how many times I’ve seen the epic tale’s theatrical release myself.  After finishing, I could not only wonder whether there was a Blu Ray format coming out to where I could see LOTR in full HD quality.  Upon browsing on Amazon, I noticed they recently threw out a  3 film box set, but noticed that there was over 3,000 ONE (1) star reviews with only 350 , 5 (FIVE) star reviews.  Why?  I personally rate the films 10/10 and same with the book, and it is well known that Amazon reviews are the real deal untarnished reviews.  I say, why the hate?

Lord of the Rings HD edition Blu Ray, but no extended?

I then found out that the filmmakers had done it again: release the theatrical release again and plan to re-release the extended version on HD, after it was ALREADY made.  I mean, it makes sense for the first time.  So you’re going to release a re-release of re-release of a re-release?  Great way to piss your fans and collectors off tbh.

Some comments from Amazon that made me just laugh were:

16,502 of 17,135 people found the following review helpful:

“Please do not let them get away with pretending that Blu Ray can’t hold both versions on one disc–it certainly can! A simple menu option would let you watch the Extended Edition when you have time, or Theatrical Edition when you don’t.

Their other argument, that “Peter Jackson is busy working on The Hobbit and will work on Extended Editions later” is 100% total BS. He’s ALREADY DONE THE WORK–just copy what he did for the regular DVDs onto a new Blu Ray master!”

“I’m sick and tired of buying movies in different formats and in different editions. I’ve already bought this twice on dvd & I know an extended cut is coming so why waste more of my money on a movie I already own!”

People have even gone as to say New Line Cinemas (the producers of Lord of the Rings) is in complete cahoots with Sauron. Ha ha.

“New Line should be ashamed of themselves at this most blantant example of double-dipping. They clearly have put on the ring and are in cahoots with Sauron. I won’t let myself be tempted by this Ring!”

Btw, movie companies, the only reason the movies are a success is because of the fans and viewers, so its not exactly a good idea to piss off the loyal fanbase! =).  Next time you hear complaints of piracy from these big film producing companies, just tell them to re-release a release of a re-released release. Try saying that 3 times fast!

Any other movies/companies you think have done crazy things like this and just Piss’n off its hardcore fans?  Post away at the comments below

Yeah, i remember hearing about this. In all honesty, not too many people are going to buy this, I think New Line might actually lose some money here.

I hope the Hobbit turns out well, there's some director issues right now.

that really sucks fan.. interesting article tp
  • Whoah, you should've definitely read the reviews before buying the box set! Hope they'll accept an opened box set..

I TOTALLY agree with what you are talking about here.. I actually bought one of those box sets.. spent over 60 bux on one.. and NO extended edition. I'm going to return it and wait for mah extended edition. Extended edition has so much more from the book as well.. its worth the wait. I just wish as it IS 2010, they could have easily set up the technology to switch between extended and regular theatrical release VERY easily.. but oh well greedy New Line.
