New Year, New Decade

Written on January 1, 2010 by moe2love

The past decade has marked a period of change for many Americans, and for many around the world as well.  According to Time, these changes have resulted in probably the worst decade since World War II; in fact, the magazine pessimistically calls it “The Decade From Hell”, and says it points the way to an even worse decade in the future.  In the past 10 years, we have had wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina, the disintegration of the American auto industry, and a rejection of human rights in Guantanamo Bay.  TIME seems to have it right when it calls the past decade “The Decade from Hell”, but what do you really think?  Has the past decade really been that bad, especially considering some of the worst times we’ve had since World War II?

Here’s how I’m looking at this situation: this decade has not even been close to Read More

What is HIV?

I have only recently discovered how the HIV virus works, which is very disappointing on my part, but it is time I share this information with all of you who don’t know how it affects us.

Understanding Viruses

The first thing to understand is that viruses aren’t out there to destroy the entire human race – they are simply trying to survive like we are.  This is why we often hear biologists talking about viruses from an empathetic point of view – almost as if they understand them and don’t blame them for what they do.  Well, just like you can’t blame a playful cat for being a cat, or a mocking monkey for being a monkey, you can’t blame a virus for being an organism and trying to survive.   In order to combat against viruses, medical researchers must often look at their point of view. Christmas?

Written on December 25, 2009 by moe2love

Mmm.  Christmas.

Probably one of the most interesting things about today is that every household will do something different on Christmas.  For some people, this will be a normal day just as any other, and they may repeat their usual routine.  But for those who celebrate Christmas, they will be waking up to a house alive with Christmas spirit, complete with a Christmas tree and decorations.

Whether you celebrate Christmas or not, note that Christmas day isn’t about receiving presents – it’s about sharing love with family and appreciating them for never letting you feel alone.  You don’t have to believe in any religion to do that.

Merry Christmas to you all.

Temptation In The Form Of A Peanut Butter Cup

Only a small portion of the total amount of Reeses Ive consumed in the past two weeks

Only a small portion of the total amount of Reese's I've consumed in the past two weeks

Prepare the wedding bells, because I’ve declared Reese’s as the best form of chocolate candy on the planet and I plan on marrying the inventor as soon as I find out who he is (notwithstanding the obvious impossibility of posthumous commitment).  I’ve been eating about 4 butter cups every day for the past 2 weeks, but thanks to my rapid metabolism I’ve probably only gained a few pounds of happy fat.  Considering that this is most likely the only amount of fat I have on my body, I shouldn’t be too worried, but I think it’s time I started to eat healthy again.

By the way, did you know that in 1928 Reese’s cups were called “penny cups” because they were a cent each? What I wouldn’t do to live in that time period…

Now that I’ve been eating these so often, it’s time we look at the nutrition facts of this thing to make sure I’m not going to have some serious problems for my splurge, and also to see what goes into your body every time you eat a Reese’s cup.  After going onto the Reese’s website, here’s what I found: Read More

Basic Vs Applied Research (Science Geek Alert)

After reading this article from Stanmed, I felt like I had to talk about the differences between basic vs applied research for all us science geeks.

Whether basic or applied research, this microscope is an important tool in science

Whether basic or applied research, this microscope is an important tool in science

When Generation Y appeared as offspring from Generation X, they brought with them radical ways of thinking (we teens are now considered Generation Z).  These new ways of thinking were applied to arts, culture, and especially SCIENCE. As scientists began to use creative ways to discover new things, they moved from basic research (essentially, researching a subject without a clear purpose) to applied research (research with a cause). In the example of this Read More

Eating a healthy breakfast before running out is pretty important!

Thats all you eat??

That's all you eat??

You may have heard this from your mom or dad, but it’s true.  Whenever it was one of those days (like every other day) where you wake up early in the morning, yet it’s still late because school or work starts so early, you find yourself finding time for putting on the correct deodorant rather than spending time eating breakfast.

While I’m not saying for you to go places all stinky, find the time to eat properly in the morning so you don’t feel fatigued till lunch.  Also another problem, is that when a lot of people wake up in the morning, they don’t feel hungry right away, alnd by the time hunger kicks in they are a couple hours into their institution and have to wait till lunch.  I ran through most of high school with this problem, till I developed my own method of feeling hungry in the morning so I ate a good and hearty breakfast filled with my favorite cereal, some eggs or toast, and OJ. Important things to do while posting your article

Important things to know and do while posting your article

Of the few important things to properly finish off a post in TeenPublish besides the title and your post content, you need to be aware of the following and enter them accordingly.  The numbers associate with the image below:

1) Your permalink – if this option is enabled for you, you may change this or just leave it default as it’s calculated based off of your title. If you decided to change this, please keep it relevant to your article post. This is going to be your URL so it’s important to stay relevant.

2) Your Simple Tags – Easy to add tags that you can think of on your own. I personally like using the Automated Tagger (Shown below), which will fetch tags according to the content of your article based off of it’s material. It’s a great way if you are lazy of thinking up good tags. Remember, tags and categories are ways to separate your content in relation to other’s content.

3) Post Tags – another way to add new tags that are not necessary related to your post. I personally like using Simple Tags, and automatic Tagger if I can’t think of tags.

4) Categories – Pick and choose the correct categories. This is important as well, if the option for adding a new category is there, then you may do so as well (depending on your user status).

5) Your Excerpt – This exercpt is what’s going to show up in the Description meta for search engines for SEO. In other words, for people using certain search engines, such as Google, Yahoo, etc when searching for your page, the description and title is what’s going to catch their eye. The excerpt (also Description box below) is what will do that and needs to be written. For instance, in the image above, the excerpt is horrible. I like to make good practice of keeping a nice excerpt which usually can consist of a summary of the article, or a copy and paste of your premise (I usually make my first paragraphs the premise, attention-grabber of the article). Remember, in below’s image the Description box does the same thing, but I would rather prefer that you write the description in the Excerpt box. You can keep the below Description box blank then.
